Write a letter

Everything you send here is read before anyone else sees it. What that means, what we hold, and what will not go up are all set out in the terms. They are short. Read them once before you write.

A word about your browser, because we would rather say it than let you find it.

The rest of this site needs no scripts at all. Turn them off and every page still reads, still prints, still works, and that is deliberate. This page is the one exception. The door carries a small check that tells a person apart from a machine sending letters by the thousand, and that check is a script, loaded from Cloudflare, who serve this site. It runs on this page and the report page and nowhere else on the site. If you keep scripts turned off, this one form will not work, and nothing else you came here for is touched.

Plain letters only: the ones on an ordinary keyboard. Curly quotes, long dashes, and anything pasted out of a word processor will come back to you with a note saying what to change. We would rather hand the letter back than quietly rewrite what you wrote.

Take your time over it. There is no hurry and no character counter ticking down at you, only a limit at the far end that most letters never come near.

The letter

Letters are read before they are printed. Nothing appears here until a person has read it, and replies come the way letters come: in days, not minutes.

After you send it

You will see one plain line saying the letter arrived. That is all that happens, and it is the honest end of it: nothing appears, nothing is numbered, and there is no page to watch. A person reads it, and then it is in the room or it is not. Days, not minutes.

Some days the door is shut. There is a limit on how many letters this place takes in a day, and another on how many can be waiting at once, because everything here rests on somebody reading every word. When the day is full the form says so and takes nothing, rather than swallowing your words and losing them somewhere quiet. Come back tomorrow. The letter will keep.
